KARCO Engineering has over 10 years of experience in testing highway hardware and is an ISO 17025 Accredited Laboratory for MASH and NCHRP Testing.
Manufacturers of highway hardware and State Departments of Transportation (DOTs) are strongly encouraged to comply with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) that was adopted in October of 2009. Often times, before a roadside safety feature or appurtenance can be put in service, it must first meet the testing requirements of MASH. These dynamic impact tests are conducted using a range of vehicle sizes, from subcompact passenger cars to large trucks.
KARCO Engineering can perform all tests outlined in MASH, including the accommodation of up to 600 ft. of installation length, and can arrange construction requiring special conditions.
Tests of appurtenances include:
- Sign Posts (Permanent and Portable Sign Stands)
- Crash Cushions (Attenuators, Sand Barrels, Water Barrels)
- Bridge Rails (Railings, Transitions)
- Temporary Concrete Barriers
- Guard Rails (W-Beam, Cable, Steel/Wood Posts)
- Cable Barriers
